Warri-Born Afrobeats Act Signs International Distribution Deal

A Warri-born singer known for blending Delta pidgin lyricism with afrobeats production has signed an international distribution deal, marking one of the biggest breakthroughs yet for the city's fast-growing street-pop scene.

The artist, who built a grassroots following through a string of viral tracks over the past two years, said the deal would allow wider release of upcoming music across international streaming platforms while retaining creative control over production, which has largely stayed rooted in local producers and studios based in Warri and Effurun.

"I want people to hear Warri in the sound, not just in the lyrics," the artist said in a statement announcing the deal. Industry watchers say the signing reflects a broader trend of international labels scouting talent directly from regional Nigerian music scenes rather than only from Lagos.

Local studio owners in Warri say the attention has already translated into increased interest from other emerging acts seeking similar deals, alongside growing curiosity from event promoters looking to bring more concerts to the city itself rather than routing them exclusively through Lagos or Port Harcourt.

The artist is expected to release a new single in the coming weeks, with a short regional tour reportedly being planned to coincide with the release.
