Tinubu Takes South Africa Xenophobia Crisis to African Union

By Nigerian Niger Delta Reporters

ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on African leaders to take urgent collective action against recurring xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks targeting Africans and other nationals in South Africa.

The President raised the issue at the African Union level, describing the attacks as a threat to African unity, solidarity and peaceful coexistence among countries on the continent.

Tinubu's intervention comes amid renewed concerns over attacks and discrimination against foreign nationals living in South Africa.

The Nigerian government believes the issue requires a coordinated continental response rather than isolated reactions by individual countries.

According to reports monitored by Nigerian Niger Delta Reporters, the President urged the African Union to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves and work towards preventing further attacks.

The development could put renewed diplomatic pressure on South Africa to strengthen protection for foreign nationals and address the underlying causes of xenophobic violence.

Nigeria and South Africa remain two of Africa's most influential economies, making the management of tensions between their citizens particularly important to broader continental relations.

Nigerian Niger Delta Reporters will continue to monitor developments surrounding Nigeria's diplomatic engagement with South Africa.
