Communities in Bayelsa State are demanding urgent intervention following reports of an oil spill affecting Nembe Creek.
Residents and community stakeholders are calling for immediate containment and cleanup measures, warning that continued pollution could threaten fishing, waterways, farmland and the livelihood of people living in the affected area.
For communities whose economies depend heavily on fishing and other activities connected to the natural environment, oil pollution remains one of the most sensitive issues in the Niger Delta.
Residents are therefore asking relevant government agencies and oil industry operators to investigate the cause of the spill and take immediate steps to prevent further environmental damage.
Niger Delta Reporters will continue following developments from Nembe and the wider Bayelsa oil-producing communities
