Nigeria's economy recorded stronger growth in the second quarter of 2026, expanding by 4.43 per cent year-on-year, according to the latest figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
The performance represents an improvement from the 3.89 per cent growth recorded in the first quarter and also exceeded the 4.23 per cent recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the figures, saying the development signals progress in the government's economic reforms.
However, questions remain over how quickly the reported economic expansion will translate into improved living conditions for ordinary Nigerians.
Niger Delta Reporters will continue to monitor inflation, food prices, employment and other indicators that directly affect households.
